Project Overview

In October 2016, I worked with Crystal D Studio on “Awakashaye”, a Sinhala rock song by Dhanushka Prabhath, a Sri Lankan artist based in Australia. Filmed across Barjarg and the snowy landscapes of Mount Buller, the project spanned three days of shooting and became a landmark in my career as it was my first time filming in snow.

My Role
  • Director of Photography (DOP)
  • Editor & Colorist
  • Drone Operator

I was responsible for the visual storytelling, capturing both performance and landscape shots, then bringing them together in post-production with cinematic editing and color grading.

Style & Approach

Although the track is a rock song, we deliberately avoided the typical fast, upbeat editing style. Instead, we leaned into a cinematic approach, using wide shots, drone perspectives, and atmospheric color grading to highlight the natural beauty of the locations and the raw emotion of the performance.

Highlights
  • First snow shoot of my career, filmed at the breathtaking Mount Buller.
  • Three-day production combining scenic landscapes with performance visuals.
  • Balanced the energy of rock music with a cinematic storytelling style.
